Hours Schedule and How to Become a Member

On January 2nd the Elgin Recreation Center has introduced new hours and increased the number of classes we offer with your membership. Jessica Ortiz hosts her High-Intensity Fitness Class from 6:30-7:30 PM on Mondays and Wednesdays where you’ll be challenged to do a variety of interval training activities. We have also introduced Sarah Graham as an instructor who will be offering two lunchtime classes; a H.I.I.T. Class from 12-12:45 PM Wednesdays and a Flow Yoga Class from 12-12:45 PM Fridays. When you come work out, be sure to check out our new list of equipment for use in the Studio and Weight Room, including a foam balance beam, yoga balls and more!

Coming up in February, we have a Ballroom Dance February 7th from 6-8PM and a Cooking Class February 9th from 6-8PM in the Rec Center Studio Room. In March we will have a Spring Break series of activities to keep the whole family entertained during the break, including an art class, field day and more! Additional information can be found on our Facebook @ElginTXParks or on our website elgintx.com/Parks-Recreation.

If you’ve enjoyed our variety of programming, we now have a way for you to contribute to the fun! We’ve created a wishlist where you’ll find a list of items that will be used for a variety of events ranging from our Senior Socials, to Kids’ Craft Days and community centered events.  All you have to do is click on the item you want to donate, purchase it, and it’ll be shipped straight to the Rec, hassle-free. We really hope that our Spring/Summer programming will offer new experiences and memories, and we hope to see you there!

Teen Council

Elgin Rec Center Teen Council

The Elgin Parks and Recreation Department is introducing our Teen Council – an organization founded to create new and innovative events/programs for Elgin Area teens and young adults while offering real world experience. At each meeting, we’ll discuss the practicalities of hosting an event as well as brainstorming new ideas for engaging programming, how to advertise for them and how to manage a budget. The Teen Council is designed to not only help the Parks and Recreation Department create targeted events and programming for teens and young adults but provide the opportunity for our Council members to gain valuable work experience and receive service hours. Through this council, we hope that teens will be able to explore their interests and learn more about how our governmental department functions as well as the practical applications of budgeting and planning.

By joining the Teen Council members will work directly with the Program Manager of the Parks and Recreation Department of Elgin, TX, and have access to similar resources as those provided to the actual Parks Department. Participants will work as a team to walk through each other’s thoughts and come up with actionable plans, then come to a consensus on which event to pursue and bring it to
reality. Plus, of course, there will be pizza and soda!

Our upcoming dates are:

  • February 5th, 6-8PM
  • February 26th, 6-8PM
  • March 12th, 6-8PM
  • March 26th, 6-8PM
  • April 9th, 6-8PM

If you’re interested in becoming a leader to your peers, join Teen Council by coming to a meeting, emailing parks@ci.elgin.tx.us, or stopping by the front desk of the Elgin Recreation Center to pick up an application.
