Physical Distancing in Parks

Getting outside is an important part of mental health and physical wellness. While we need to maintain a safe distance from others, we are still able to enjoy nature and escape our houses for a little bit!

There are plenty of activities that you can do by yourself in the parks, so check out a few of these suggestions, and don't forget to wash your hands frequently, take your shoes off outside of your house and avoid going in public spaces if you are exhibiting symptoms!

Here are a few key things to remember when spending time outdoors:
  • Keep a safe distance from one another - at least 6ft
  • Avoid touching communal surfaces such as benches, water fountains, railings, etc. 
  • Avoid groups of people - stay solitary and stay safe! 
  • Refrain from touching playground equipment
  • Avoid activities that share equipment or involve touching
Volleyball League Poster 2020

Thursdays in February and March, from 6:00-8:00PM we will host a Volleyball League in the Elgin Recreation Center. All you need is at least 6 players for a team, or sign up individually and we'll place you on a team! All players must be 15 years of age or older to participate.

Games will be played in 3 sets with a minimum of 4 players and up to 6 players on the court.

Fees are just $10 per person for the season.

Join Elgin Parks & Recreation for a fun filled Spring Break 2020!

From 10AM-2PM Monday - Friday of Spring Break we will be hosting a different FREE activity for all to enjoy, culminating in our final event on Saturday, March 21st - our first movie night of the year!

Adult and Teen Dodge Ball League Poster

The Elgin Recreation Center will be hosting twp (2) Dodgeball Leagues Thursdays, April-May 2020. Games will be from 4:00-6:00PM (teens) and 6:00-8:00PM (adults) every Thursday. The length of games and number of games per evening will be determined by the number of teams registered.

Teams will consist of 6 players on the court at a time and an unlimited number of registered alternates. All players who wish to play, even as substitutions, must have paid and registered prior to the date of play.

When registering, please complete the entire registration online, or in person at the Elgin Recreation Center.

This Spring we have plenty of new and exciting events, leagues, programs and classes for you to participate in! Check out our Volleyball and Dodgeball Leagues or join us for our new Educational Sessions taught by local experts. We are glad you chose to spend time in our park system and with our staff at our events. We are so proud of our facilities, events, programs and parks, and hope that our pride shows through in to your park experiences. Whether it's taking a walk in Elgin Memorial to check out our new trees, feeding the ducks at Morris, playing a round of Disc Golf at Thomas Memorial or listening to music at Veterans', we are happy to provide a variety of entertainment. We believe these recreational activities and spaces are essential to maintaining happy and healthy living in Elgin.
